Seattle love

This week I took a little time at work (about 5 hours, actually) to draw a typographic map of Seattle’s dozens of neighborhoods. The map isn’t my creation – I saw a poster print in a store window a few years ago and snapped a picture – you’ve probably seen similar maps for other cities.

The map fills a 7.5ft brushed metal wall behind my desk. I projected from my laptop onto the wall and drew on the map with dry erase markers.

I like having it on my wall, it’s fun to study. There are dozens of neighborhoods I’ve never heard of even after living in the city for several years! And each neighborhood has such a distinct flavor. It’s one of the things I love about this city.
